Historically Mangor tribe have had a pastoral way of life, migrating in search of better pastures for their livestock between Koy region in summer and Mahabad (Sablax) region in winter. With passing of times the tribe’s nomadic way of life has gradually given way to farming, both arable and livestock, which continues to current day. The main produce of the farms are wheat, barley and lentil. However the infertile land in the mountains is not sufficient to sustain the tribes, therefore the majority of people are engaged in herding sheep and goats. Main mountain regions inhabited by Mangor tribe are: Saran, Land, Gada, Qandil, Doli Shexan, Behangwin, Panasar, Doosar and Rerasanan Historical places in the region include: Qalati Shai, Gerdi Gerd, Nalyn ( in Nalyn region) and Qalay Tasyan. Many historical artefacts both in stone and bronze from the Ashkanian era have been discovered in this area. For more information regarding Qalati Shai refer to the book, Mahabad Civilisation, by Mahmood Pedram.
